Abstract

This study derives from academic concerns about the theological discourse of trichotomy and dichotomy of human nature. The Bible as the main source of theological truth becomes the foundation of this research. The research focuses on the function of the definite article in the New Testament related to human nature in Matthew 10:28, Luke 1:46-47, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, and Hebrews 4:12. The purpose of the research is to find New Testament evidences of human nature. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach. The first finding shows that the function of the definite article is generally and simply used by the author of the book to show a special quality that distinguishes one noun from another. The second finding is that the New Testament presents literal evidence of human nature consisting of Body, Soul, and Spirit. This study recommends further research on the Old Testament evidences in the theological discourse of trichotomy and dichotomy.
